FOLKESTONE DEVELOPMENT GALA SUCCESS

Folkestone Sports Centre Swimming Club held on 11th February their first competitive gala in their home pool after many years of "borrowing" other local pools.
Head coach Kevin O'Connor who organised the Development gala with the help of the Sports Centre management said "It's important for our swimmers and their parents to experience racing in their own pool and to realise swimming really is a local sport as well as an International one"
It turned out to be a fantastic night for the Folkestone swimmers who came second overall on the night. In the process they had 15 individual wins, 4 relays wins and managed 33 personal best times in over half the events between them. Also importantly 10 swimmers achieved "speeding tickets" meaning they swam faster than the target development time for that event. Although they don't gain any points they should count these speeding tickets as a badge of honour as they are an important stepping stone in the career of a young swimmer.
